This was taken about 50 weeks ago, when on a cruise within the Caribbean. We had one day at Dominica, which is quite a wildlife destination. We were walking in a loop to the Botanical Gardens (saw humming birds there) and spent ages at a river where there were plenty of birds looking for a snack. This Great White Egret was one such one - I took 2 or 3 shots of it being successful fishing. I chose this for this purpose as I like it caught just flying off with its catch - as you can see, I nearly missed it! With cropping relatively significantly, I used the RAW file through Topaz Photo Ai, to help with the image size post-crop, then developed it in Lightroom. Settings - 1/2,000 f6.3 ISO 1,250, after a 1/3 exposure compensation and at 800mm FF, using my Olympus gear.

Adrian, yes indeed you caught the action. I may be tempted to tone down the swirling water a bit with one of the many tools in LR/PS. No matter it still is a very nice photo as presented.   Posted: 01/08/2025 13:45:37

Well captured action shot, and nicely cropped. To me, at least on my monitor, the bird seems to be over exposed, particularly on the top of the head and the shoulders. As well, as Steve points out, the water could be darkened a bit.   Posted: 01/14/2025 16:48:01
