About the Image(s)
About: Black-necked Stilts are a common bird at my local park, and they are so used to people that they often come very close. Even though I have many images of these birds, I can’t resist taking more when the light is nice and there are good reflections. Nikon Z8, 600mm, 1/1600 f/7.1, ISO400. Post Processing: very minor crop to remove a bright spot, slight increase in exposure. It’s easy to blow the whites on these birds so I take test shots and then use full manual exposure mode. I’d rather bring it up a bit in post than lose the whites.

Cindy, black neck stilts are always fun to photograph, and just to watch. The reflection really adds a lot to the image. Nice and sharp, good pose, well exposed all add up to a very nice image. Well done. Bruce   Posted: 12/03/2024 20:20:34

Many good qualities in this image: subject sharpness and background blurring, spot on with the color balance, and lots of intersecting (or potentially intersecting) diagonal lines. Also, of course, is the choice of a vertical orientation. I like and agree with your approach toward saving the whites. The only thing that would improve this pic would be to catch it with some prey in its mouth. Excellent!

Cindy, your camera craft shows great skill here with so much detail retained. A lovely image enhanced with both the reflection of those legs going in a multitude of directions and you timing this shot with its beak open. Gorgeous!   Posted: 12/15/2024 18:09:01
