Big Eyes by Bob Feldberg

July 2024 - Big Eyes

About the Image(s)

This is an image of a black skimmer taken on the Gulf on the West Coast of Florida. The skimmer had caught a fish that was too big for him to ingest. He struggle for over 15 min trying to get it down. Very interesting to watch. Photo takes with a Sony A1 and 200-600mm lens. Exposure was 1/3200 at f/8. Cropped and post processed in LRC.

Black skimmers are so fascinating to watch, and this is an arresting scene. The focus on the bird's eye is spot on, though the poor fish doesn't look too happy. I like the texture in the background as well. Darkening the background a bit would bring out the subject a little more.   Posted: 07/13/2024 13:48:40

I love that you captured both the skimmer's and the fish's eye. Great composition. The depth of field really helped bring out the subject! Your image showed great texture in the skimmer and fish.   Posted: 07/17/2024 17:57:12

This is great capture and execution, Bob! I would crop this image on the top, it would make it even more striking.   Posted: 07/24/2024 14:28:30

Bob, Very cool and yes, the eye of the fish is saying that the sis not a good day. The capture is spot on and the Skimmer is sharp - good job.   Posted: 07/24/2024 22:46:13
