Moon Rise over the San Francisco Bay Bridge by James Sakaguchi

October 2026 - Moon Rise over the San Francisco Bay Bridge

About the Image(s)

The bay bridge is the lesser known of the two bridges in San Francisco; the Golden Gate is the more famous. I’ve wanted to photography this bridge at night for a long time. I positioned my camera for long exposure along the Embarcadero road, near the Ferry Terminal building. Had to use two photos taken at the same location/time but used two different lens. The bridge was taken with a wide-angle (20mm, ISO-400, f7.1, 10 sec exposure) in bulb mode. The moon was too hazy with the wide angle. Thus, I used my 100-500mm zoom (ISO-200, f11, 1/100sec, 324mm) and focused on the moon to get details. I then used Lightroom to do edits. and for the first time, ChatGPT as a consolidator. Loaded both photos into ChatGPT and told it to combine, put the moon over the bridge. Had to try a couple times. Sure, is easier than Photoshop and more accurate than Neo. Once I got what I wanted, I downloaded the photo from ChatGPT into Topaz to up-scale. Finished a few edits in Lightroom (masking, contrast).
