About the Image(s)

The Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and United States Capitol line up in a rare and powerful composition across the Washington, D.C. skyline.

The Washington Monument was illuminated in patriotic blue with a column of stars to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary on the Fourth of July.

Capturing this image required standing in a very special location where all three landmarks could be aligned in a single frame. The weather was extreme, and the long wait made the experience even more challenging. I took this photograph at 10:50 p.m., while we waited for the midnight fireworks in Washington, D.C.

In Adobe Camera Raw, I increased the shadow contrast to bring out depth in the foreground, enhanced the colors, and applied Dehaze and Clarity to strengthen the atmosphere and architectural details. I then used the Detail panel for denoising and sharpening to produce a cleaner and more refined final image.

For me, this photograph is more than a cityscape. It is a rare alignment of history, architecture, light, and celebration??”captured on a special night as America marked 250 years.

Shooting at ISO=100 at night is a challenge, but you avoid noise and gain tack sharp resolution. Good choice. By underexposing you gave range to the colors in shadows, and wow, they look impressive. I like the composition, putting the Washington Monument slightly off center flanked by the Lincoln memorial and the Capital building. Nice work.   Posted: 07/13/2026 12:02:08
