About the Image(s)

Over the past two weeks, we visited Iceland to capture some incredible photos. This trip was specifically designed for photographers to shoot the aurora borealis at night. We also explored various locations to photograph waterfalls, beaches, and mountains. This picture was taken at Diamond Beach, a black sand beach where numerous chunks of ice drift ashore. You can find my shooting and editing details on the photo. Thanks

Hey Quang. What a great shot. I am so jealous that you got to go to Iceland. My daughter was there and as I remember, a lot of her shots had a blue cast. I hope you don't mind, but I kind of like the image somewhere between your original and the one you submitted. I liked the sky a little darker. I also noticed the slow shutter speed and wanted to bring that out. Of course, this is all my take and I am just throwing out suggestions. I found something really cool in Adobe Camera Raw: adding clarity seems to make the water... Wetter. I think it also showed the slow shutter speed on the water near the bottom right. Again, this is just my take on it. Your shot has all the elements of a great Iceland Image. I think the image is perfect. Thanks for letting me share my opinion.   Posted: 11/09/2025 01:27:02

Thanks, Don. Your suggestion is very valuable. I regularly use Detail ? Clarity and Texture in ACR. In this case, I admit that making it stronger helps to emphasize the texture, especially the white on black sand.   Posted: 11/10/2025 14:39:28

Hi Quang. I clicked on Google Lens and it opened instantly on Diamond beach so you nailed the location. Its a "dynamic" image with the slow shutter speed but feels to need a bit more punch in the wave wash area. The "Diamond" nature of closest piece of ice really came out when I significantly enlarged the image so playing with a different crop that focused in on a smaller area could work well. thanks for sharing the story of the returning ice.   Posted: 11/09/2025 07:13:05

Quang, Iceland is inspiration for landscape photographers. There is so much beauty to see and capture. Indeed, you captured some of that beauty with this image. I like Don's suggestions concerning the sky in the original. Anything that can be done, IMHO, to bring out the yellows and orange colors in the sky will then contrast all the more beautifully with the cool blues in the water. Your shutter speed was spot on, perfect.   Posted: 11/09/2025 22:08:19

Thanks, Charles. I agree about adjusting the brightness and restoring the original color of the sky. I usually take the time to create a precise mask in ACR so that those adjustments don't affect the other layers.t mask on acr so it does not affect when I edit other layers.   Posted: 11/10/2025 14:43:39
