About the Image(s)

On a recent trip to the Grand Canyon, I had to stop at Sedona on my way back to Phoenix to snap a
couple shots of the beautiful red rocks of Sedona. In this image, to bring out the latent colors I took the
liberty to adjust saturation and hue of the orange, red, and yellow tones. The distant plateau was dull,
so I brightened it. Because I find gray skies to be dreary, I replaced the sky with one from my library. I
hope the final image does not look too unnatural. Native images can be flat and uninteresting. Camera
data: Nikon Z7ii, f/8, 1/500, 160mm, ISO=100.

HI Charles. You have achieved a depth to the image with your processing and bought it alive. I would have been tempted to work with the original sky to give it more life and brightness as the replacement is conflicting with the main subject and draws your eye away from the landscape. Excellent compostion and great textures   Posted: 05/10/2025 05:36:48

Charles,

I do agree with Brian that the original sky might have been a keeper on this one...

One thought I have on similar shots I have is that the rock formations on either side of the photo frame the rock in the formations in the middle. Unfortunately the rock in the middle is relatively boring. An alternative I would experiment with is cropping out much of the rock on the right making the colorful rock on the left as the subject of the photo. Then the rock formations in the distance would just add depth to the photo.

With all I wrote, I will add: this is a fabulous photo! And I simply love Sedona and the area. I think you have a good capture regardless of my simplistic comments.
