LOCATION: 'Tusu' Festival is a folk festival held on the last day of the Hindu month of 'Paush', i.e., 'MAKAR SANKRANTI' in eastern INDIA. It is mainly river centric. It is a unifying form of common faith and belief of the agrarian society in joy of harvesting crops. At the end of the festivities, the immersion of the image of Tusu is done vividly and with songs which have a melancholic ring. Rural fairs are also organised during the festival. The festival Tusu, is mostly celebrated in Southwest of West Bengal, Southeast of Jharkhand, Northeastern Odisha as well in the Tea-State of Assam (INDIA).

Sanat, the colors are festive. The way the cloud restates the shape of the tree is interesting. However, while full of energy, the composition in my opinion is too complex. My eyes wants more simplicity, perhaps achieved by a focus on fewer people in the original composition?   Posted: 03/16/2025 19:55:09

Sanat, thanks for the history that goes along with the festival picture. The colors are beautiful and true, and convey an atmosphere of celebration. You might have cloned out some of the figures on the right side closer to the tree. The single cloud surrounding the tree looks photoshopped.

Sanat, I agree with Charles and Mark. I'll add that I would have been conflicted on this photo as well. The cloud and the tree with the couple walking to the right suggests one possible "story". The congregation of people near the waters edge suggest another story (and their reflections in the water open more possibilities). So many other possibilities in the scene! I would have a hard time choosing.

You have a good subject and a good story about it. Thanks for explaining the festival. The colors are a great subject matter.
But you are taking this so far from the activity. I wish you had been standing knee-deep in the water just in front of that big rock.   Posted: 03/25/2025 03:30:41

I love images that tell a rich story. In this one, the cloud-filled background creates a beautiful foundation for the tree in the foreground, enhancing the overall composition.   Posted: 03/31/2025 16:53:02
