About the Image(s)
I was looking around for the Milky Way on Cape Cod and found myself standing on the beach at kitschy Dennis port. The garish lights e cast shadows on the beach and light up the waves and even the clouds, but still you can see the galactic core above.
I like the variety of textures and patterns in this image. My question is whether it is too busy, and whether the portrait orientation works.
I tried landscape but it was hard even at 14mm to get both the Milky Way and adequate foreground, I would have needed to do a panorama.

I like that this image is different from other Milky Way shots. Both the portrait orientation and lack of a dark sky create interest and make me think/try to understand it. That's good! One aspect I find distracting is the cluster of bright clouds on the upper right. Their brightness and proximity to the edge of frame tend to pull my gaze away out of the image. Your night sky images are great; something I have never tried.   Posted: 09/10/2023 04:00:19
Very interesting and unusual view of the Milky Way. While I do agree with what Steven has said above, especially about the bright clouds that show movement drawing attention, the bright wave line on the beach and light and shadow patterns on the beach draw my eyes even more. I would suggest cropping up from the bottom to eliminate the beach.   Posted: 09/11/2023 18:20:10
Will, I really like the vertical format for this work!
With both the larger expanse of sky, and the almost three textures in the i.upper sky, ii. mid-sky, and ii. waves, the composition is most engaging.
However, I am in 100% agreement with Chan ... the beach needs to be cropped out. (See attached 5x7 ratio edit).   Posted: 09/21/2023 12:32:37

Very unusual Milky Way image! I like the portrait orientation. I agree with Steven and Chan about some of the distracting elements. I also find the color makes the image difficult to interpret. The ocean looks brown, and the sky is a lighter shade of blue than expected for a night photo. It might be interesting to play around with the colors. Or perhaps try it in B&W. The bright upper clouds on the right could possibly be cloned or cropped out - that would help simplify the image, as would cropping off the beach. You did a great job of capturing the Milky Way core!   Posted: 09/11/2023 22:36:13
Very nice and interesting image. Capturing the Milky Way is difficult and you did a good job in doing so. The details along with the clouds capture my eye! As far as portrait vs. landscape, I generally prefer landscape. However, noting that you tried landscape and couldn't obtain the photo you visioned, the portrait works very well!   Posted: 09/12/2023 08:43:07
