A Different Perspective by Jennifer Marano

October 2026 - A Different Perspective

About the Image(s)

This was taken at a local hot air balloon festival in the early morning. Unfortunately, the fog layer was too low to allow the balloons to take off, but some people went up in tethered balloons and seemed to really enjoy their new perspectives.

Technical: OM 1 Mark 2, 12 ??“ 40 mm lens @35 mm, ISO 640, f/2.8, 1/400 sec

I enjoy the story that this image tells, and the colors are nice. If you had the ability to zoom more (and perhaps you did not) it might have been good to frame closer on the people. Also...if the image is properly exposed, you should be able to get some detail in the sky even on a cloudy day by reducing the highlights, that would add some drama.   Posted: 10/03/2026 15:37:01

The fog layer was quite uniform, unfortunately, but it did do away with harsh shadows. Maybe next year will bring different conditions and better photos. More zoom might have been nice - I can try cropping it and see what it looks like. Thanks for the suggestion.   Posted: 10/05/2026 22:42:30

I like the colorful nature of the photo, and it's good that you caught the action such that the line of sight goes from the people to the balloons on the right. That and the line between them establish a good sense of direction of attention.   Posted: 10/05/2026 18:51:14

Thanks, Canan. I hadn't noticed how the tether line acts like a leading line!   Posted: 10/05/2026 22:46:17

Love the balloon's colors . . . and the people, although small, grab my attention and their gaze anchors the image and creates the story. I wish the sky had more detail/interest. Too bad the weather prevented flight; you made lemonade out of lemons!   Posted: 10/05/2026 21:44:39
