Jennifer, this is a lovely tree, sharp and well-exposed; however, the background detracts from the tree. I suggest you think about other angles (you now know I have no compunctions about trespassing) or locations that have fewer buildings.   Posted: 04/01/2026 17:38:13

Hi Cindy,

What a lovely tree! It really stands out against the white house and contrasts nicely with the yellow trees in the background and the yellow and green tree in the foreground. Using the f/4 aperture isolates the focus pretty much to the maple - was that your intent?   Posted: 04/01/2026 18:14:36

The picture shows off fall colors well. I like all the yellow, brown, and green details in the corners framing the tree in the middle.   Posted: 04/01/2026 22:42:25

Beautiful tree with great color/shape. I find the building behind distracting and also the crop leaves me wanting to see the bottom of the tree. With trees, I've tended to either photograph a small section of the tree (emphasizing the color/detail) or the entire tree. They're a great subject year-round!   Posted: 04/03/2026 08:43:44

No doubt, the star of the image is the Japanese Maple tree. The vibrant red of the leave is what draws the attention. I think I would not remove the background, but I would give it a slight blur and perhaps desaturate the color slightly. The blue of the roof tends to hold back the full power of the red leaves.   Posted: 04/05/2026 20:49:41

Hi Cindy..Sorry to be so late (work issues). I agree with everyone that the Japanese Maple tree is the main focal point. You display this perfectly. As Chan mentioned, perhaps desaturate and soften the background somewhat as a means to emphasize the tree more. Nice work!   Posted: 04/07/2026 21:34:06
