About the Image(s)

I have been making architectural minimalist images, most of which tend to be pretty close to abstract. This one is on a larger scale, with identifiable elements of the building clearly visible. I spotted the interesting graphical elements, and the cool tree. It doesn't fit into my current project but I think it might be nice for a future project that includes aspects of nature mixed in with the built environment. It seems that, annoyingly, people keep planting trees next to the buildings they put up.

In Lightroom I applied black and white conversion, lighting adjustments, slight perspective correction, and a shadow across the lighter parts of the facade.
Nikon Z8 with Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 lens; F/8, ISO 400, 1/160s, 145mm.

As usual I was trespassing (this time in an office park) but this time the security guard did not chase me away ;)

Hi Will,

I have been enjoying your architectural minimalism! In this image I particularly like the contrast between the blank upper story windows and the interesting tree reflections in the lower windows, with the mild distortion in the smaller window a particularly attractive detail. Very engaging! I like your idea of a project combining architecture and its interaction with nature. I wish you continued good luck with your trespassing!   Posted: 04/01/2026 16:49:29

Thank you Jennifer for your comments. Doing projects is definitely an aspiration and the next phase I think in photographic artistry for me.   Posted: 04/03/2026 13:00:52

I had the same thoughts as Jennifer. I like that you can see the rivets in the side of the building-the straight lines of rivet marks is interesting.   Posted: 04/01/2026 20:28:29

Yes thank you. I love the rivets. My concept is to always keep the image minimalist be never completely abstract. I like to show the building materials.   Posted: 04/03/2026 13:01:59

This is a good contemplation of built and natural environments. The difference between the top and bottom windows really holds my attention. And the contrast between the small windows on the left and the larger ones on the right, and all the lines throughout the picture produce a coherent, geometric look. I really like the idea of doing projects. What do you do with the images when you feel like you're done with a project?   Posted: 04/01/2026 22:40:55

Canan, I am currently involved in a yearlong seminar which deals with how to create and display a series. I plan to tell everyone more about this in next month's post, and will also share a link to the online exhibit in June.   Posted: 04/02/2026 11:57:00

I look forward to hearing more about the seminar and the exhibit!   Posted: 04/03/2026 14:07:01

I think we can recognize your images; which I'm told is a good thing as you've developed a personal style! This simple image offers so much; symmetry (and not symmetry), many lines and rectangles. Great range of tones. My mind wonders why the lower windows have reflections of a tree - and the upper windows don't. The annoying tree adds to this image! Look forward to learning more about your seminar and seeing the work!   Posted: 04/03/2026 08:13:37

Saying that you can recognize my style is the biggest achievement I could have hoped for! I have been working towards this for a decade. If this interface allowed me to send you a smooch emoji I would ;)   Posted: 04/03/2026 13:03:32

Will, this image causes me to try to understand what I am looking at. That's good. I have been following your project with great interest and realize you have a talent for looking at architecture and finding the unusual.
The upper panel, by itself, is blank and of little interest. The bottom panel is filled with shapes and textures. Together they create, for me, a most interesting image of complimenting contrast. I look forward to seeing more of your work.   Posted: 04/05/2026 20:41:53

Great image...makes me think and keeps my eyes glued to the photo! I really like the contrast between the upper and lower portions. The inclusion of the tree (nature) adds to the story. I also like the rivets and believe they provide an element of realism. Overall photo is a very good combination of both realism and abstract.   Posted: 04/07/2026 21:27:53
