About the Image(s)

This is another of the images from our zoo trip. This chimp was quite a ham. He posed, clapped, and talked with all of the people there. He put on quite a show.

Canon EOS R5 Mii Lens Canon RF 100-500 at 100mm; ISO 250; f/4.5; 1/50 sec
Post processing in Lr Clasic; Added contrast, decreased white and black, added slight dehaze and sharpening; I used the mask on the sky to decrease the white, and I masked the rest of the background to decrease the whites.

Hi Cindy,

Your chimp certainly looks comfortable and relaxed! How interesting that he was so into interacting with his audience. You got a very nice portrait of him - sharp and catching him in a moment of composure. So many portraits of zoo animals make me feel sad, but this one doesn't evoke sadness.   Posted: 12/08/2025 19:51:02

Nice/sharp image of a pensive chimp! They love to perform. I wish he was looking at the camera. Also - his eyes have no life (some refer to them as "dead eyes" without catchlights) - if possible - important to get those catchlights - even if small. You might be able to increase the saturation/brightness of his eyes in this image. And perhaps dodge/burn to add depth to the image.   Posted: 12/11/2025 11:50:47

Nice image of this chimp! I like the overall sharpness and detail. I agree with Steven on increasing the brightness of the eyes. Again, very nice image, thanks for sharing this!   Posted: 12/11/2025 14:57:14

I like this image. I might prefer a slightly looser crop, but you may need this crop to take out distractions. Nevertheless, it is a good portrait of a relaxed subject.
Well done.   Posted: 12/14/2025 20:06:01
