About the Image(s)
After a heavy Spring rain this grassy roadway was flooded and impassible. The things I noted here were the reflections in the newly created “pond” and the bright, early Spring colors. My goal was to capture these in this photo.
This image was taken with the following: RAW format; Canon 90D camera; Tamron 18-200mm, f/3.5-6.3 zoom lens; aperture f/9; shutter speed 1/125; ISO 1600; focal length 34mm. Post processing was done in LR

I love the bright pastels in this image and I also like how the tree trunks are in sharp focus, while the foliage is soft, but not blurry. To me, the overall effect is almost impressionistic, but not in a way that makes it look like a painting. Rather, it creates a mood or invocation of spring and lushness. I can imagine warmth and humming insects. I wish there was a bit more of the pink flowers and a tiny bit less of the foreground.   Posted: 07/05/2025 20:17:40
Thanks Jennifer! I appreciate your insights.   Posted: 07/06/2025 15:19:01
Kind of a dreamy/soft image - that holds my interest with a single color scheme. I'm fascinated by images that make me search for where reality ends and the reflection begins. I'm not sure if it's sharp (or where the focus point is!) - but in this case it doesn't matter - we all know what it is and our brains connect the dots. That could also contribute to the soft feel. Well done.   Posted: 07/06/2025 15:08:18

I agree that it gives an impressionistic feel. The path at the edge of the "real" trees leads your eye to the tree on the left, and the flooded stream itself guides your eye to the tree, which is in sharp focus. It is an interesting image, which makes you go back again and again. Good job.   Posted: 07/06/2025 16:46:08

Somehow, I neglected to submit my earlier comments on this very nice image. So, I will try again. I am really taken with the impressionistic feel of the image. You present us with an image with a very restricted color palette. Mostly green with just a touch of violet. By giving a close look at the image, I can see the flooded area which leads toward the clearly seen tree at the upper left. I feel it is that tree that gives the image the needed structure.

This composition has a lot going for it, and the scene is peaceful and interesting. As for improvements: 1)The scene is nearly monochromatic, and in such cases may benefit from black and white treatment. 2) the water blends too closely with the background. I suggest some darkening of its C-shaped curve area.   Posted: 07/08/2025 16:43:16
Thanks Will! I appreciate your input as I have looked for ways to better contrast the water.   Posted: 07/14/2025 15:28:38
