About the Image(s)
I took this photo of a small field of flowers while walking through a local park. I wanted to experiment with this image and push the artistic boundaries. As such, in post processing in LR I reduced contrast, texture, and sharpness, along with other minor adjustments in an attempt to give this photo a more impressionistic look.
Along with your comments, please give any advice on how to do this better.
This image was taken with the following: RAW format; Canon 90D camera; Tamron 18-200mm, f/3.5-6.3 zoom lens; aperture f/8; shutter speed 1/200; ISO 200; focal length 76mm.

I like what you did - creates a soft/pastel image. Although I usually favor sharp images - in this case we know exactly what the subject is - and our mind connects the dots - so we don't need the sharpness/detail. It works well - and purple/yellow creates a nice pop against the greenery. As to how to do this better - my only suggestion if you have Ps is to explore some of its filters - they allow you to create that painterly effect with lots of control (brush direction, brush size, amount of effect).   Posted: 05/08/2025 09:58:02
Thanks Steven, I appreciate your comments!. Impressionist paintings are my favorite. I have a lot to learn and your suggestion is very helpful.   Posted: 05/08/2025 12:38:55
My two cents: this composition works well as an impressionist piece, and conveys the mood you felt when viewing the scene; however, one could be forgiven for thinking this is just a photo that doesn't have enough in focus. I suggest you go further with your post-processing, or work with techniques such as intentional camera movement.   Posted: 05/08/2025 11:36:18
Thanks Will! Your comments and suggestions are very helpful, especially the intentional camera movement. I'll have to check this out.   Posted: 05/08/2025 12:40:24
The image invokes a Monet watercolor. I am not good at the post processing so I defer to Steven and Will. I like it.   Posted: 05/08/2025 18:32:27
Hi Dale,
I think you accomplished a dreamy, impressionistic look with your processing. Both Steven an Will have made suggestions that can take this image even farther toward your goal.   Posted: 05/09/2025 04:22:13
