Very Early Spring Vineyard by Jennifer Marano

March 2025 - Very Early Spring Vineyard

About the Image(s)

In early spring one can see the “bones” of the vineyard that will blossom later in the year. I find the repeating patterns, warped by the topography, to be mesmerizing.

OM Systems OM 1 II camera body with 12 ??“ 40 mm lens at 40mm, ISO 200, f/4.0, 1/1000 sec. Processed and converted to B&W in Lightroom.

I like this high key, B&W image that you have created from the image recorded by your camera. I wish you had sent a copy of the original for comparison.

I enjoy the repetition of so many varied lines. I see curved lines, diagonal lines, horizontal and vertical lines. All of this creates for me an interesting image.

Thank you.   Posted: 03/07/2025 12:49:31

Thanks Chan! My camera club had a new special category this month called patterns and it made me look around me and see patterns everywhere.

Thanks for your kind comments!   Posted: 03/07/2025 15:31:25

I like your composition! The sky doesn't add much - so you made if a small part of the frame. I like that you capture vines going in different directions - they lead the viewers gaze through the frame. The B&W accentuates the stark/barren landscape. If I was going to edit this - I might try removing the 2-3 tall/thick/black posts in the foreground.   Posted: 03/08/2025 07:22:32

Your image is mesmerizing. I keep going back and looking. It reminds me of a patchwork quilt. I agree with Steven about the sky. If you cropped it down to the top of the bushes? The part of the tree on the left looks like a skeleton hand, which goes perfectly with the skeleton of the vineyard!   Posted: 03/08/2025 17:07:07

Interesting patterns! I agree that the sky is the only slightly weak point. An alternative to cropping it is (if the highlights aren't totally blown) to select the sky and lower the highlights and the exposure until you can see details in the clouds.   Posted: 03/24/2025 20:55:34
