About the Image(s)

This is another image recorded by me on my cell phone. I was riding through the community on my mobility scooter (the speed of a moderate walk) when I noticed this scene in front of me. I am new to serious cell phone camera use and compose my images with plenty of room for cropping.

Basic processing (I have set the camera in my cellphone to record in RAW) was done in Lightroom Classic with additional color work and tonal work (Dodge and Burn) done in Photoshop

Chan, I like the colors and the way you processed and sharpened the image. Although the foliage is pretty, I do find the suburban environs not too compelling as a subject matter and if possible would have tried, while at that site, to isolate the tree(s).   Posted: 02/03/2025 22:54:06

Will, thank you for taking the time to view my image and making helpful comments. Yes, this is an urban landscape. This is where I live. I decided to not try to make it look like a rural landscape.   Posted: 02/04/2025 14:31:13

I didn't realize FLA has trees that change color? Looks like a Fall scene.Sharp/well exposed. I like that your processing brings us closer to the interesting subject. The warm/bright colors are engaging and grab my attention.

I agree with Will's point that the overall image has the feel of documenting a fairly common scene. Perhaps there might be more interest by capturing a smaller part of the scene? Considering camera movement?

Glad to see you taking more pictures with your phone; so refreshing/enjoyable vs. carrying the usual camera. Phones just keep getting better; I wonder what the future holds.   Posted: 02/04/2025 10:36:27

Steven, thank you for taking on the task of administering our group. We will miss Lance, but I feel we are in good hands.
Yes, there are some trees that will change color in the fall. Not like the trees in the northern part of the country, but still, some color.

I am enjoying using my cell phone camera, but it will not replace my other cameras.   Posted: 02/04/2025 14:38:17

The colors are vibrant and the image is sharp. My thoughts are a little different as far as cropping. I think I would have left more of the walk/driveway, as it is a leading line, and I would have put more of the lake in. The other comments talk about isolating--the tree second from the house and the nearest one to the camera have interesting shapes as the limbs leave the trunk of the tree. Are you taking any kind of class for your phone images? Good job.   Posted: 02/04/2025 18:35:40

Thanks for your comments, Cindy. Yes, there are a number of crops (or non-crop) that would work. No, I am not taking any class. I may watch one of the webinars available through PSA. Mostly I am just experimenting.   Posted: 02/04/2025 20:30:19

Chan...very nice and bright image of the local settings. I am impressed with the quality of the photo via a cell phone camera. I also really like the crop on this as it allows me to focus on the trees with the house in the background. Referencing the comments above regarding the subject matter, for me personally I like the urban landscape as this is what you saw before you for the photo and is a product or your artistic vision. You've inspired me to look more closely at my cell phone camera as an option. Thanks for sharing this.   Posted: 02/04/2025 22:15:56

Thanks, Dale. Yes, modern cell phone cameras are great. I am adding mine to my toolbox, along with but not instead of, my other cameras.   Posted: 02/04/2025 22:22:29

I agree with the camera as another tool, but not replacing our cameras. A question...I noted that you take the cell phone photos in RAW, do you download it to your computer for post processing in LR and PS or do you use a phone app for post processing? Thanks!   Posted: 02/04/2025 22:42:18

I always transfer them to my desktop and use Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. I want to view my images as large as possible and on a calibrated monitor. I will usually look at the image enlarged on my monitor to 200 % for a final check.   Posted: 02/04/2025 22:47:19
