About the Image(s)
Technical: Digitally Registered w/400mm glass; Manfroto Tripod; composed through the viewfinder, then carefully cropped via 16:9 aspect ratio. Editing via PSCC to decrease highlights ever so carefully. (Best view via a large monitor; however, do not Click on image as it is set at low resolution).
Recently composed while visiting Alifia River State Park in Florida. This composition represents the quintessential Japanese aesthetic I try to bring the viewer. Yugen suppose to exude a sense of mystery ... as one of the terms key interpretations. Hope you enjoy a Peaceful and Joyful Holiday!

Lance, your image is mysterious indeed! It is as if there is an impenetrable veil that allows the viewer to only see suggestions of what may lie on the other side. It is a most engaging image. Well done!
An observation: Without a border of some sort, your "careful 16:9 crop" is lost as the dark circumference of your composition blends into the black background of the page.

Michael, indeed, you are correct! This website often needs a white frame to define its space.
Also, yes, we are presenting similar visual narratives, each a product of mostly hands-on approach to creating photographic art.   Posted: 12/02/2024 16:13:32

Lance, your image should be used in one of the old film noir movies. The blurred background really sets the moon apart and helps portray the sense of mystery. Beautiful.

Lance, your images are often surprisingly simple. This one causes me to want to do some study of Japanese aesthetics.
I would really like to see this as one of a larger series built upon the same theme.
Question: Is the egg shape of the moon due to the phase of the moon at the time, or is this a somewhat long exposure?   Posted: 12/06/2024 20:53:43

Chan, I will take your advisement under consideration for my Talk in January.
Good question:
Along with the cloud and mist we are seeing an optical illusion, because this is how I saw it in real-time.   Posted: 12/06/2024 21:20:17

Agree there is a sense of foreboding/mystery. Likely not a place I'd feel comfortable walking alone. The out of focus foreground brush guides the viewer and frames the moon nicely. There is a darker band across the top of the image - what is that?   Posted: 12/06/2024 21:50:29

Steve, thank your your positive comments.
The darker band at top (one of my favorite natural components) is the area differentiating between upper and lower clouds, and areas of open space. The clouds/mist, partly, are created by the large lake that sits in the direction of the moon rise.   Posted: 12/07/2024 03:45:43

Lance, I love learning about Yugen, Rasa and other esthetic ideas that you show us in your images - thank you! This one does exude a sense of mystery. The unfocused foreground branches makes me feel like I am standing in a hidden spot while observing the sky. The slightly less than full phase of the moon adds to the sense of mystery, as does the sharp detail of the upper edge of the moon, which makes me want to see more of it. Great image!   Posted: 12/08/2024 00:03:18

I like the mood, agree with everyone. I appreciate the amount of detail you captured in the lunar surface despite the atmospheric haze. and I think the shape of the moon is due to ia day or two short of a full moon.   Posted: 12/08/2024 01:01:52

Yes, as well, it was not actually a full moon.   Posted: 12/08/2024 16:37:43

This image exudes a shroud of mystery, which I love. The focus on the moon with the with the out of focus branches as a frame is excellent! Thank you for exposing us to these aesthetics in our learning/developing process! I will be viewing your DD-83 image as well.   Posted: 12/09/2024 00:12:48
