A Lazy Summer Afternoon by Dale Yates

November 2024 - A Lazy Summer Afternoon

About the Image(s)

Image Description: While strolling through a local park with my wife this past Summer, I noticed this person fishing along the Huron River.

What a way to relax and spend a lazy summer afternoon! Perhaps this is a lesson that I need to learn…

This image was taken with the following: RAW format; Canon 90D camera; Tamron 18-200mm, f/3.5-6.3 zoom lens; aperture f/8; shutter speed 1/125; ISO 1000; focal length 154mm. Post production was performed in LR.

Yes, a most relaxing scene ... a common vernacular throughout the southeast, and of course other country and mountain locations. Placement of the subject off to one side and allowing the space he is enjoying becoming the salient feature helps defines a sense of "place". Well done!   Posted: 11/03/2024 11:37:51

I wish I were sitting on that rock! What a relaxing scene.
I do wonder if the image would have been improved if you had raised the camera slightly to place the subject a little lower in the scene. I realize that you can't run back and rephotograph the scene. Perhaps a crop up from the bottom with some added very light darkening (burning) around the edges would help focus attention on the subject.   Posted: 11/10/2024 20:32:25

Thanks Chan...great observations! I will work on the crop of the image and the handling of the edges. Thanks for your input and helping me to grow in this art we love!   Posted: 11/12/2024 00:53:30

Hi Dale,

What a perfect lazy summer day image! I like that you included the whole reflection of the young man as it gives the viewer a good sense of the calm but flowing nature of the stream.   Posted: 11/10/2024 22:19:50

I don't have much to add . . . a very peaceful/realistic scene. I like that you included more of the frame in direction of his gaze. The blurry reflection in the water adds interest! Well done.   Posted: 11/10/2024 23:02:27
