About the Image(s)

This image is another in my series of Photo Opportunities in My Home.

The salt and pepper shakers, and the pitcher are similar to a set I remember in our home when I was a child (many, many years ago.)

This was photographed handheld using natural light. I did not remove the set from the place where my wife had placed them. The blur and the texture was added in Photoshop.

Canon EOS RP. 87 mm.lens length. f/4.0 1/100 sec. ISO 400

Happy Sunday, Chan!

Another well crafted image via your ever-increasing talent using digital post-production software. Very relaxing subject. However, a more abstract-like vibe may come via a B&W rendering ....   Posted: 11/03/2024 11:31:20

Thank you, Lance. Yes, a B&W conversion may work well. I will give it a try.   Posted: 11/03/2024 12:41:32

I think the colors work well. Congratulations to your wife on her excellent design sense, though of course we ALL paint our walls to match our salt shakers. But seriously I think both the color and the form add to the this pleasing, relaxing still-life.   Posted: 11/03/2024 12:51:24

Chan, I like what you did with the wall, but a little uncertain about the way you blurred the table. Maybe slightly less blur? Very nice crop.   Posted: 11/10/2024 22:10:08

I like the color palette - and your editing of the background works really well. I'm with Jennifer on the table - the blurring of items in the same plane of focus as the subject leaves me with a sense that it was edited. Perhaps that's ok - but even where the items meet the table - the sudden/harsh transition from tack sharp to blurry is not appealing to me. I am seeing a style in your photography/editing - which I'm told is a good thing!   Posted: 11/10/2024 23:00:20

Steven, thank you for your studied response. I really appreciate your evaluations. You have caused me to remember some wise words I have received from another. That is: "There are always two people in every photograph; the photographer and the viewer." It would be easy, but lazy to simply say, "I create for myself, and don't care what others think." But the fact that I have presented this image for viewing means I do care how the viewer receives it.
As I continue to learn and experiment with my art, I need you, and this entire group to give honest critiques of my work.   Posted: 11/11/2024 21:23:24

Interesting photo...great color scheme and composition! The details are excellent. I also really like what you did with the background wall. In reference to the table, in my opinion the blurred effect seems to make the salt/pepper shakers and pitcher "float" in air. This is a great artistic vision which seems to lean toward the abstract genre. I, the viewer, spent much time studying this image and admiring it, which is the ultimate goal of our art. Thanks for sharing this and forcing me to really think about what I am seeing!   Posted: 11/12/2024 00:38:47

Dale, thank you for your encouragement. I no longer can be satisfied with the constraints of "traditional photography." I have no problem with those who prefer it, and greatly admire those who record wonderful compositions and beautiful light. I am enjoying my experimentation and (hopefully) artistic growth.   Posted: 11/12/2024 04:13:44
