December 2024 - Dubai Bastakiya

About the Image(s)

From the moment I received a message from Dick, I was determined to create a recipe video and share it. However, something shifted, and I found myself drawn to my favorite location, Dubai’s Bastakiya. This remarkable heritage site, now transformed into a vibrant coffee and tourist destination, beautifully preserves Dubai’s charm. The area offers a glimpse into the city’s rich culture with attractions like the spice market, the coin museum, and a touch of traditional Emirati hospitality.
At 3:30 PM, I set out from home to explore and capture the essence of this historic neighborhood. Equipped with my Canon R6 and a 24-70mm lens, I recorded captivating footage at 30-50 fps. I later used CapCut to edit the video, marking this as my first-ever video project. This experience was a blend of creativity and exploration, bringing Bastakiya’s timeless appeal to life through my lens.

Dear Friend,
Greetings.
I enjoyed your video presentation. A nice historical heritage you have chosen to showcase. The close up shots, the fillers and the variety of subjects in the presentation really made this a captivating presentation. Loved the corresponding music which seems natural to me.
Thank you for sharing.
Cheers,
Kamal.   Posted: 11/19/2024 08:51:29

Hello Boskee,

I could tell that this was your first time making a longer video. Your photography was excellent but the video was made up of 35 short "B" roles. There was no discernable subject other than one may guess that you were trying to depict a market place. If you would have used subtitles, your audience may have been able to understand where you were and what your were showing us. Someplaces are universally understood and recognizable but I don't believe that Dubai's Bastakiya is one of them.

I saw your critique of Helens video.....

2. The video felt like a perfectly crafted B-roll, almost like the stage was set, but the "actor" hadn't arrived yet. Adding a subject in some shots could make it feel even more dynamic and complete.

So I am surprised that you recognized it in Hellens video but you did not see it when you were editing your own video.

So my suggestion is make your clips longer, following a subject, and use subtitles or voice over.

This was your first video so please take my comments as they were ment, to help you improve

Dick

Welcome to our video group! Your first presentation is fantastic! Though brief, it's packed with dynamic motion clips that effectively enhance the content. The use of short clips is perfect for capturing attention, catering to today's quick-viewing audience. The close-up footage adds a cinematic touch, making your video truly stand out. Great work!

Note: I wrote my comments before reading those of others, so I'll share my initial thoughts as they came to me.   Posted: 12/10/2024 04:15:36
