About the Image(s)

This photo was taken inside the Bahia Palace, one of the tourist attractions in Marrakesh, Morocco. I traveled there a few years ago and was the first tourist to enter to visit the palace that day.

I am Looking forward to hearing everyone's comments.

Very lovely picture Debasish. This is one of those pictures that I have to say I would love to see in color. My experience is that in scenes like this, the color of the tiles and wood is spectacular, but be that as it may, the stage is well-composed, and the contrast nicely represents the various components clearly. While some may say that the two figures on the left are somewhat distracting, I don't, finding them just part of a developing scene.   Posted: 09/06/2023 12:24:42

Hi Debashish.
You've captured a really nice travel / street image that is poignant in light of the recent devastating earthquake in Morocco.
Your composition is very pleasing and your patience to wait and include the woman sweeping the entrance is a decisive moment. I also like how well you balanced the exposure from inside to outside.
I do find the other two people in the frame to be slightly distracting and if it were me, I would have attempted their removal. But...one could certainly argue their inclusion is part of the story. And, if I am not mistaken, according to PSA rules, if you were to enter this into competition, the people need to stay. In any event, I respect your decision to leave them in. Regardless, it is a successful image.   Posted: 09/10/2023 10:32:19

Hi Michael, I appreciate your comments. I put the subject at the center of the frame so that the focus of the viewer stays where I wanted. Another thing I wanted to emphasize is the way this large area of the palace is kept clean, perhaps the same way it was cleaned 100s of years ago to maintain the shine and beauty of the marble tiles.   Posted: 09/10/2023 12:31:18

Good day, Debasish!

The lines, shapes and overall architectural design really shines as a Black & White image .... the person cleaning in center says a lot ... and your intended narrative is accomplished.

However ....

As much as the digital revolution has allowed fixing, changing, deleting, adding or otherwise 'create an alternative reality' from the one that was registered on film or sensor ... I urge photographers, instead, learn and practice the virtues originally securing photography as a proprietary genre of art.

In instances like this, it is up to the artist photographer to be patient: of course I am speaking about waiting for the other people to leave, or speak with the gentleman cleaning, and ask for a "staged" shot, later, when the people move. In latter sense, we would not be composing a "street" scene as much as it would be categorized as documentary.
