About the Image(s)

I was attracted to this subject because of the peeping sunlight light coming through this huge leaf in the late afternoon. I wanted to capture this and display the green tone gradients.

This image was taken hand held in Briarlake Forest Park using my Canon EOS 6D Mark II with 24-70mm f2.8 L USM lens. Settings: 1/160 sec, f6.3. ISO 640, focal length 70 mm. B&W conversion was done in Photoshop Elements via gradient map with underlying HSL layer to adjust greens and yellow. I would appreciate advice regarding ways to reduce the halo around the main subject. Although I defringed the layer; I am not quite satisfied.

Hi Elsie.
The subject has some interesting detail and you've done a good job of placing the main leaf in the frame. The B&W conversion works well and I think you were definitely on the right track with your post production. I took the liberty of playing around a bit in Photoshop. I wanted to reduce the brightness of the sky as I found it drew my eye away from the leaves. Additionally, I didn't feel the stem and partial leaf on the left added anything to the composition, so I eliminated it. I brought out some texture in the main leaf and played around with contrast, detail and tone curve. I don't know if it's an improvement... what do yo think.   Posted: 11/21/2025 01:39:30

Hi Elise This is a beautiful picture. Specifically the texture and exposure of the leaf. This leads me to ask: why not crop the background and show only the tree ?

Yes.I agree and see Michael cropped away, also.
Thank you, Adi!   Posted: 11/23/2025 12:10:38
