Dale, kudos to you for thinking outside the box and presenting a sunrise image in monochrome. (Curious what your original color image looks like). For the most part, I think you did a good job with your edit. I particularly like the silhouettes of the tall trees against the brightening morning sky. Nice tonality in this part of the image.

Just my opinion, but to my eye, the foreground doesn't add anything to the composition and, in fact, detracts from the point of interest - the sunrise. In my visual feedback, I applied a 16:9 aspect ratio and completely eliminated the immediate foreground grass. I also added some highlights to the sun-facing sides of the trees and enhanced the contrast and blacks of the conifers. Thoughts?   Posted: 05/05/2025 18:15:25

Thanks Michael! Here is the original for the sunrise monochrome photo. I agree with edits you did on the B&W image. I wasn't sure what to do with that foreground grass, so I decided to leave it and get the opinion of the group on this. Your revision looks much better without the foreground! The highlights and contrasts you added also enhances the image as well. Thank you for taking the time to comment and help me with this!   Posted: 05/05/2025 20:43:17

Dale,
Nice picture nice composition. One comment - the histogram is missing black tones (low gamut).   Posted: 05/06/2025 15:56:30

This is a lovely image, Dale.
Beyond the trees, my eyes follow along the wandering waterway. Amazing hand held capture!
I agree with Michael's suggested edits. Increasing contrast and highlights really makes it pop!
