About the Image(s)
This was a shoot, the results of which the model intended to give as a gift to her husband, a sailor whom she rarely sees. To me, this particular frame conveyed her longing and genuine emotions most effectively. Although the model had dark brown eyes, this frame worked best in black and white. The dynamic hair movement was achieved using a standard reflector.
The camera settings for it - Nikon D800 with lens 105mm, f/2.8, 1/200, ISO 320.

Hanna, your portrait work continues to amaze me. Your compositions are thoughtful and you have clearly mastered the art of lighting. Beyond that, the other thing that stands out for me is how you seem to be skilled at getting your subjects to relax. I think that is a skill (natural ability?) that all the great portrait photographers share.
The only negative that I see is to my eye your border is too wide and too bright and actually draws my eye away from an otherwise perfect photograph. My suggestion for presentation here is to do a "stroke" line in Photoshop rather than a "border". My suggestion below - a 5 px stroke in light gray.   Posted: 05/05/2025 18:30:24

Thank you so much, Michael for your kind words. I'm totally agree about the frame, I don't like how it looks like either. But it was the first time I worked with a frame so it was a kind like an experiment for me. Thank you for the advice for the future works, it's really helpful because the overwhelming majority of my b/w works are with the intensity black background.   Posted: 05/07/2025 14:44:01
Hanna...excellent photo! The light/shadow contrast on the model's face is perfect. The overall composition with the tilted head and hair blowing across her face is also excellent. I agree with Michael's comments above regarding the frame and his "stroke line" suggestion. Thanks for sharing this!   Posted: 05/05/2025 21:22:16
Thank you, Dale! I've already written above about my lack of experience with frames. And I really appreciate any advice on how to use them properly.   Posted: 05/07/2025 14:46:15
I love the sense of urgency the picture has. To me this is done by cropping the head out and the blurry hair. It gives a feeling of a moving subject. Very pleasing image.

This is a beautiful image Hanna.
The model's eye stands out perfectly as the main subject.   Posted: 05/07/2025 02:28:21
