February 2025 - Walking In The Rain

About the Image(s)

I took this on Dec 18. I went with my daughter Sophie for her 10th birthday to NY. We were out of the Gugenheim passing by the MOMA when I saw this. I took it with a Fuji xpro2 and a 35mm ( equivalent) lens. F5.6 Aperture priority 400 iso Manuel focus. She was holding the umbrella!
It reminds me of the Henri C. Bresson's picture of a gentleman in the rain.
Not much editing.

Adi, this is a nicely composed and rendered casual street scene. The center sky reflection draws my eye into the frame and right to the woman in light clothing. I like how she is flanked on either side by guys in dark clothing...it creates a nice focal point and nice contrast. Overall I like the range of tones in your image.

My inclination would be to bring up the shadows on the two men to see a bit more detail...but then again, I tend to do more post processing than you do. This is merely comment on our stylistic differences and is not meant as a criticism of your very well done image.   Posted: 02/04/2025 15:12:21

This is a lovely image, Adi.

I agree that lightening the shadows on the two men would be helpful Also, to my eye and monitor, the highlights a the wet ground are a bit bright. Toning them down might be helpful.   Posted: 02/07/2025 01:22:53

thank you for the good thoughts. The high gamut (high contrast) is intended to steer the viewer's eye to the shapes rather than details.   Posted: 02/13/2025 01:31:34

I love the mood and atmosphere. The reflection and strong contrast brought a beauty to a gloomy raining weather. Though it was captured candidly on a street it has qualities of fine art.   Posted: 02/22/2025 05:09:11
