About the Image(s)

Dancer on the gate

This image was taken while I was walking my dog. Canon R6. Focal length was 96mm. Shutter speed 1/800s. F5.0, ISO 400 on a nice sunny day. An unusual sort of image for me, but I was interested in the abstract feel.

There are wonderful textures in this image, and the worn paint on the gate adds to the interest. I wish there was a little more space at the top, but there probably was a reason for the tight crop. The background is nicely blurred, and the warm tones are attractive. Thanks for sharing it!   Posted: 08/07/2026 12:13:08

Thanks Laurie. There was a good reason for cropping close in the top. An inappropriately placed tree and some other objects behind the gate. Unfortunate.   Posted: 08/10/2026 16:49:22

This is a very interesting image using a silhouette with backlighting. I love the contrast between the dark subject and the bright background. My suggestion would be to lower the highlights in the gravel /grass so the softer light makes the subject stand out more.   Posted: 08/07/2026 13:02:38

Thank you Kathleen. You, Arabella and Teresa have all suggested excellent ways of changing the background to accentuate the figure. I like all of them even though they are so different.   Posted: 08/10/2026 16:54:08

the dancer, suspended and cavorting on the gate is a marvelous form. I'm thinking that changing the exposure of the sandy ground just a touch might make him stand out even more.   Posted: 08/07/2026 13:04:02

I can see why you were attracted to this most interesting piece. It looks like something that one would find in a fine art gallery. To see how it would look, I placed it on an abstract background from an artist that I am licensed to use. What a dramatic piece it would be on a wall!   Posted: 08/10/2026 10:44:34

Yes, I really like that. I may do something similar for my wall. Thank you Teresa!   Posted: 08/10/2026 16:46:05
