About the Image(s)
Last year when we visited the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming, I missed a shot of a couple of bull moose crossing Prune Creek. As I clicked the shutter button, my camera flashed that my storage card was full. By the time I switched cameras and lenses, the event was over. This year I was somewhat vindicated. I first started watching this moose when he was across the road from the creek. He was eating along the ditch and stopped at an area that looked like a good place to cross over to the creek. I waited for about an hour and a half to see what would happen. There were two families fishing in the creek and I was quite concerned for their safety in the event of a crossing. I called one of the mothers over and expressed my concern, but it took awhile for the men to be convinced to stop fishing and go to their vehicle. The moose watched very patiently and when the family was a good distance away, he made his move. I took this photo while peeking around the back of my vehicle. We spent a couple of days in the mountains where I took a lot of photos, but the story behind this one makes it one of my favorites. Nikon D800; Nikon 70-200mm @ 155mm; f/7.1; ISO 1600; 1/640 sec. I straightened the photo, used generative fill around the edges where it was blank due to straightening, and made ordinary adjustments in ACR along with Topaz Denoise.

Wow, I can't imagine being chased by a moose. I don't think I would even have the presence of mind to use pepper spray. How scary!   Posted: 08/16/2026 16:16:26
