About the Image(s)
When the winds come up on Lake Superior, the ice on the lake is pushed towards shore and shattered in the process. It is quite beautiful. This was taken at dawn at ISO 100, 28mm, F9, 1/100 sec. It is very tricky to walk on it and set up a tripod, but I love getting out there (but not too far!!). The ice actually is blue, and no vibrance or saturation was applied to this - actually, I desaturate some of these shots to make them look more believable...
I look forward to your suggestions.

Laurie, I thought at first glance you had imaged a glacier. Those blues are really beautiful. Glad you were careful venturing out on the ice. I don't think I would be that brave. The composition is fantastic, with the clouds swirling down in the left portion, balanced on the right by that ice tower. It's a lovely image!   Posted: 04/01/2026 08:38:02
Thanks, Teresa, it's magical out there sometimes!   Posted: 04/02/2026 01:15:49
Awesome capture. The light ,the color, the diagonals and angles are juxtaposed with artistry and a strong sense of design.   Posted: 04/02/2026 01:52:42

I can't believe you actually walked out on that ice. Amazing shot. At first, I thought it looked a bit too dark, but then I realized it was probably my screen settings, and it makes sense since it was taken at dawn. I agree with the other comments, but I'm curious what it would look like if you raised the highlights or bumped the exposure just a little.   Posted: 04/02/2026 19:14:22
Kathleen, I think that a little brighter might be a good idea. Thanks!

Laurie, wonderful image! The cool tones are perfect for the ice and compliment the yellow and orange in the sky. The DoF is great. The perspective is perfect. Nicely done!   Posted: 04/02/2026 22:30:05

Peter Bean
I like the lead in lines on this photo, from icy peak to clouds, down to the faint hint of a rising sun and then back across the fractured ice to the base of the peak again. The colors are muted but rich and they work superbly with this image. I would have cropped off the bottom 1/4 of the image. There is not much added information in there and it would have made the composition almost perfect rule of thirds.   Posted: 04/16/2026 22:05:44
Peter, I think you make a good point. I should have cropped it that way to begin with. Thanks!   Posted: 04/19/2026 01:17:25
