Thats My Price by Harrison Ball

February 2025 - Thats My Price

About the Image(s)

This image was captured during a Photo Walk in Haymarket, an outdoor farmer’s market in Boston. The market is located near Faneuil Hall. It dates back 300 years and is open every Friday and Saturday.
I used a Nikon Z 6II with Z 24-70 ’4 S lens with ISO = 3200, ’/8 and 1/160 sec.The camera was set to Auto WB and Auto ISO. I post processed the image in Lightroom Classic and Radiant Photo 2. The vendor was having a heated argument over price with the two individuals in the foreground. I don’t like the busy background but could not find a way to exclude it.

Interesting shot of this day-in-the-life. The veggies in the center add nice color, and I love the expression on the vendor's face. What would you think of possibly cropping out the person on the right? The story is between the vendor and the one she's arguing with...   Posted: 02/04/2025 20:14:36

She was arguing with both of them and winning! I will try the crop. Thank you for the suggestion.   Posted: 02/04/2025 21:24:50

This one tells a story, and the expression on her face tells it all without you explaining. I admire this photo that perfectly captures the human element.   Posted: 02/04/2025 20:38:41

Nice image , I too would have cropped out the person on the right so that the focus of the viewer remains on the main story . nicely done . One observation you have shot using 24-70 lens, with f/8 and shutter speed of 1/160.

you would have got same result with lower frame rate for this lens, and ZII has very good Image stabilization built in body as well the lens. if you would have used f/5.6 , ISO 800 and shutter of 1/80s

even at 3200 ISO , Nikon has given a very clean image.   Posted: 02/05/2025 03:08:53

Wonderful action shot - love the expression on the lady's face. I can see whyt she would win the argument.

Copping out the right person would give a different feel to the image. I'd leve the person there so to me, it gives the feel of me looking over their shoulders at the scene unfolding. If you take the right person out, then the lady shifts to the right somewhat and may unbalance the image in my mind.

I think the busy background is OOK but maybe darken it a bit to help keep the eyes on the main sene.   Posted: 02/06/2025 01:48:41

Harrison - I love street photography and good street photography tells a story. This does this so very well. Perfect timing - there is no question of how the vendor feels about the negotiation. I am not sure about the figure on the right - in or out. Heck, you could just do a crop of the vendor and her stall! But as already mentioned, a wider aperture might have helped with the background. And, Adobe Elements 2025 and Photoshop both enable some background replacements or adjustments so it is less intrusive...regardless, nice capture.   Posted: 02/12/2025 22:04:08
