About the Image(s)
Maha Kumbh Mela This year ..... well this is going to be one long read. So please bear with me.
The Image you see is clicked by me using my drone, while I am in a boat in river Ganga in Prayagraj. Me and my 4 other friends we planned this trip almost 2 months in advance cause we wanted to be sure we get right timing and enough time to click images of this once in a lifetime event. I will try to give you a gist of what this gathering of people are doing near a huge water body at 6am. Please read further.
The 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj is considered exceptionally special due to a rare celestial configuration that occurs only once every 144 years.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, a colossal pilgrimage and festival in Hinduism, is a celebration of faith and spirituality that draws millions to the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers (Sangam) every 12 years. Its origins are rooted in the ancient legend of the Samudra Manthan (churning of the cosmic ocean), where drops of amrita (nectar of immortality) fell at four locations, now sites of the Kumbh Mela.
The Mela's history stretches back centuries, with mentions in ancient texts. It has evolved into a massive congregation of diverse Hindu sects, ascetics, and pilgrims. Geopolitically, the Kumbh Mela showcases India's soft power, highlighting its rich cultural heritage and spiritual traditions on a global stage. It attracts international media and tourists, fostering cultural exchange and understanding.
The Kumbh Mela has set world records for the largest peaceful gathering of humans. Its sheer scale presents immense logistical challenges, managed through intricate planning and coordination by authorities. Central to the Mela is the Shahi Snan (royal bath), a ritual performed by different Akharas (sects of Hindu ascetics) in a specific order. These Akharas, each with its own traditions and philosophies, play a significant role in preserving and propagating Hindu spiritual knowledge.
The Kumbh Mela's importance for Hindus lies in its potential for purification, spiritual renewal, and attainment of moksha (liberation). Bathing in the holy waters during auspicious times is believed to cleanse sins and bring spiritual merit. For humanity, the Kumbh Mela represents the power of faith and collective experience. It demonstrates the enduring human quest for meaning and connection with the divine. In today's world, marked by rapid change and uncertainty, the Kumbh Mela serves as a reminder of the enduring values of spirituality, peace, and unity, offering a glimpse into a tradition that has sustained millions for millennia.
The 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj is considered exceptionally special due to a rare celestial configuration that occurs only once every 144 years. This amplifies the spiritual significance of the event, drawing unprecedented numbers of pilgrims and making it a truly unique and momentous occasion.
Here's why it's considered so special:
Rare Planetary Alignment: The 2025 Maha Kumbh coincides with a unique alignment of planets that happens just once in 144 years. This rare conjunction is believed to create an exceptionally potent and auspicious energy field, making the pilgrimage and bathing rituals even more spiritually powerful.
Maha Kumbh Designation: The Kumbh Mela occurs every 12 years in Prayagraj, but the 2025 event is a Maha Kumbh, marking the completion of a 12-Kumbh cycle. This makes it a particularly significant milestone within the larger cycle of Kumbh Melas.
Amplified Spiritual Benefits: The combination of the rare planetary alignment and the Maha Kumbh designation is believed to amplify the spiritual benefits of participating in the Mela. Devotees believe that bathing in the Sangam during this time will bring greater purification, spiritual growth, and liberation.
In essence, the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela is not just another Kumbh; it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for spiritual seekers to experience an exceptionally powerful and auspicious event.
The rare celestial alignment and the Maha Kumbh designation make it a truly unique and special occasion, attracting millions of devotees from around the world.
In the image you can see thousands of people waiting to take dip in the chilling waters of the confluence. And the Prayagraj authorities have prepared the river bed specifically for this event. the preparation for this mega event started over a year in advance. cause the number of footfall expected in this month at this place is over 40 million. Fantastic arrangements have been made by the government. If you want to know more about it , you can google about it and read.
Cheers from India.

I wonder if Dehaze in Lightroom would remove some of it. Thanks for sharing your image and your comments about Maha Kumbh Mela.   Posted: 02/04/2025 15:42:48
I will try to answer your queries one by one.
Can you see the Image on your controller - Yes, The Controller has in built video receiver system, There are two types of controllers for drone - one with built in video screen , and other is where you attach your mobile phone / device to it with the drone app running, in this app you can see the live video .
this helps a great deal for flying as well as to compose the shot.
IS the camera capable of shooting in RAW- Yes , My drone has RAW image , I can set the camera to shoot in JPEG or RAW. Also for Video it has Normal video and D-Log video (Log video format, or Logarithmic Video, is a video format that captures more detail in dark and bright areas of an image. It's designed to be flat and desaturated, with little contrast or saturation, so that it can be easily color graded in post-production. )
but please remember the entry level drone usually do not have RAW and Log support. so if you are thinking of buying a drone, please read the specifications carefully.
Yes I did Post Process the image as I had shot in RAW. I have opened some shadows , and even applied Dehaze , but it was quiet hazy early in the morning, hence the feel of the image   Posted: 02/05/2025 02:58:35
Yes the horses are the cops who have cleared the area of the river for the Naga sadhu's to take the holy dip. Naga Sadhu's have the first right of the dip for many many years ( centuries now , it is one interesting bit of history ). So everyone , even the PM of the country will have to wait for them , they have their specific date and time for the holy dip, and when they are in water no one else is allowed there. It is kind of a respect that they have earned. and everyone respectfully moves out of their way.   Posted: 02/05/2025 03:01:40
There are so many wonderful aspects to your image. While the haze does limit visibility, I think it also adds an element of immenseness to the scene and that adds to the story.
The crowd looks very calm and there doesn't seem to be any unruliness. I can sense that the spiritual is real and honoured.   Posted: 02/06/2025 01:39:50
