February 2025 - Uno

About the Image(s)

This friendly dolphin hangs around a local marina. It has been named "Uno" because it has only one fin. A fisherman tossed him a fish in this photo. 1/29/25 Bokeelia,Florida

I had my Sony A7iii on auto ISO 500, F 4.5 with 500 sec . Tamron 50-400 lens.

This photoi needs highlights (fish) and lighting fixed, but not sure how to do it I tried multiple ways not did not like the way it turned out with burning, cloning, Topaz, Neo etc. Any suggestions appreciated..

Great image - and excellent timing. I can see the dolphin catching and enjoying the meal. Great composition as well.

I took your image into PS and applied a curve adjustment to darken the shadows area a tad and then took that into Viveza (one of my fav apps) and added structure to better show detail and also added a bit more contrast. As usual, what works for me may not resonate with your vision. Just my attempt to address the lighting.   Posted: 02/03/2025 17:10:54

Yes, that is perfect. I have never used curve adjustments. I will have to research that and look at the Viveza app. Thanks!

what a great timed shot. Kathleen your wildlife images are always something that I look forward to . such a great work. According to me everything is spot on in this image. As we know in wild one cannot always get our desired frame and settings , as we do not control anything ( nor the subjects nor the whether / location ) .So do not worry much about aesthetics , you have gift of documenting the wild continue to do so.   Posted: 02/04/2025 02:17:21

I have never seen a dolphin try to catch a fish! Great capture! I like the diagonal composition. The color of the dolphin and water look good and everything is in focus. I think the belly of the fish may be slightly overexposed but that may be able to be corrected in post. I look forward to participating in this group.   Posted: 02/04/2025 14:02:51

Yes, the fish is overexposed, but I could not figure out how to fix it. Yes, Uno jumped up so quickly that I was surprised I even caught a shot.   Posted: 02/04/2025 17:34:49

Kathleen, this is a great shot! I love how the water droplets and water running out of the dolphin's mouth emphasize the motion happening. Is it just me, or does that seem like a really big fish for that dolphin to swallow? I agree with Prasad - it's always amazing to see your wildlife captures.   Posted: 02/04/2025 19:48:07

I think maybe the angle of the shot makes it look bigger. Anyway, Uno gobbled it down quickly and with no issues! Even the pelicans were going after the fish being thrown.   Posted: 02/04/2025 20:06:33

Prasad is right, your wildlife images are a treat. Perfect timing. Keith's adjustments add just the tweak to make this even better. Really nice job.   Posted: 02/12/2025 21:53:10
