Yangon Temple, Myanmar by Jerry Taylor

November 2024 - Yangon Temple, Myanmar

About the Image(s)

Myanmar was free from military rule for a brief time. During that free time, I was with a group of workers who taught English, and my wife and I, specifically family systems therapy.

What an interesting life you lead, Jerry! The golden glow of the buildings is stunning and nicely set off by the blue. I wonder if you might consider cropping the left a little so that the temple is centered a little better.   Posted: 11/08/2024 12:13:51

Thanks Laurie. At 81 and looking back -- it has been an interesting life. My goal in this image was to show the active urban life around the Temple complex. If I had a tripod with me, which I almost never carry, it would have been an interesting composition of blurred lights at the bottom of the image to match the gold of the Temple complex, but alas -- no tripod.   Posted: 11/09/2024 15:14:15

I too like the glow of the buildings. I would think of cropping off the lower third of the photo to get rid of the distracting car lights and some buildings. One could crop it so only the temple is featured.   Posted: 11/08/2024 15:12:39

If you look just to the right of the large temple you will see a high-rise apartment building. I used the "dodging" brush in Lightroom to bring it to the surface -- again to display the urban nature of the scene.   Posted: 11/09/2024 15:19:03

Reading your commentary about your vision, I think you've achieved it wonderfully. The grandeur of the palace co-existing with the regular city "stuff" is an interesting look. I like it. For me, your composition puts the palace in context and adds to the story.

Wonderful colours - really like the blues and golds.   Posted: 11/10/2024 16:36:16

You achieved your goal of showing busy urban life by photographing at night with blue and gold and adding those interesting background buildings. I hope you were in a safe area while taking this shot. How interesting that you had this experience while teaching there.   Posted: 11/10/2024 22:26:27

What great contrast between the temple and the surrounding city. I see how you brought out the apartment building to the right. You might consider doing a little of the same with the entire blue-lit area. Do you think that would be a good balance to the yellow-orange brightness of the temple? Or not?   Posted: 11/11/2024 17:45:52
