Headed for Home by Laurie McShane

November 2024 - Headed for Home

About the Image(s)

As I was paddling one morning, I saw an eagle on the shoreline eating a fish. I didn't want to disturb him, so I stopped paddling and just kind of floated toward him. He let me watch for awhile, but then apparently decided to head for home. This was taken at ISO 2500, 500mm, F/10, 1/1250 sec. Because of the noise, I ran it through Topaz, monkeyed with the dehaze, highlights, and shadows adjustments, and cropped some.
All suggestions are welcome!

WOW, what a spectacular image. Beautiful action shot, perfectly placed in the frame - love that you left "room" for him to soar upward.

The detail and sharpness of the eagle is also excellent especially in the wings. The soft background also helps keep my eyes on the subject.

This is a shot I'd be very proud to call my own.   Posted: 11/01/2024 14:28:38

Laurie -- I live near the head waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Bald eagles are a common sight at the Conowingo Dam in Harford County. There is an event that is called the Million Dollar Weekend because of the cameras and the lenses of the photographers who gather each year to take photos of Bald Eagles. Your shot is excellent.   Posted: 11/09/2024 15:50:12
