Queen Anne's Lace by Ellen Fisch

October 2026 - Queen Anne's Lace

About the Image(s)

On a trip to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, I saw some beautiful lacy flowers named Queen Anne’s Lace. The flower can be cultivated or grow wild and is especially delicate in appearance. I thought that a sepia-toned image would emphasize the complexity and appeal of the flower and that the monochrome would showcase the flower itself, rather than possibly distracting the image by using color.

This was shot with hand-held Hand held Canon EOS 5D Mark II. ISO 125. 1/25 sec. micro100mm 1:2:8 lens.
I used Photo Shop to color and crop the image

Blurring out the background has made your subject standout as you wanted. I like the sepia toning and it compliments the image.
I would try to get rid of the light patch at the top on the left hand side as this can be a bit distracting.
Well done.   Posted: 10/01/2026 14:33:16

Very nice image of the Queen Anne's Lace. It looks so delicate.
My thoughts were the same as Angela's. Nice background - blurred but also gives a sense of place. The light patch at top left was distracting when I first looked at it.   Posted: 10/01/2026 14:56:34

Nicely Done. I have used a sepia tone myself, and I think that it works really well here. The blurred background is also well done. It might help if the subject was a little sharper, but overall, a very nice shot.   Posted: 10/01/2026 21:52:58

Many thanks Kurt. I really love working with sepia and B&W. Sometimes color is distracting for me, but not when I'm painting in watercolor: then I use a full palette! I'll work on sharpening.   Posted: 10/01/2026 22:25:45
