August 2026 - July 4th fireworks

Here in the US, July 4th brings abundant fireworks to celebrate our nation’s independence. We are lucky enough to live where all we have to do is go out on the back patio and watch the local fireworks. Attached is a composite image of multiple shots combined into a single image. Basically each firework explosion was taken with a 10 second exposure, at f/11, and an ISO of 200. Multiple images were combined in Photoshop to form this photo. Each layer above the base layer used the “Lighten” mode to allow all the images to show through.

A cracking image of the fireworks. Not an easy subject at all. Well done for combining many images to get this result.
I like the window light showing on the lower right thirdas it "grounds" the image. I might be tempted to take out the other light that is on the right side edge as my eye keeps going there!

Before I read your description, my first thought was to wonder how you capture such a sharp image of fireworks. Combining long exposure and merging multiple images really was a great technique. The image is very sharp and leaving the silhouettes of the clouds and trees helped give context to the size of the fireworks. What a wonderful image of fireworks. It looks like they were taken at blue hour which makes them stand out more and separates the sky from the black foreground.
Fireworks are sometimes hard to capture and you certainly did this well and then combined them making the image more spectacular. Posted: 08/09/2026 15:10:09
