About the Image(s)
“Crossing the Podium” was taken at Arlington Cemetery in Washington, DC. It was an amazing place.
What appealed to me was the man crossing the podium and wearing a red shirt which really made him stand out and also on his own.
I liked the symmetry in the image.

How cushy was that to get someone with a red T shirt to cross over the podium!!! Really adds to the image and also gives a bit more scale to the building.
Well done.

Very nice image. You did a really good job capturing the shadows on the monument, and the texture of the stone. I think the red t-shirt adds the right amount of contrast to the image. I don't know if you have the option to crop a little less at the top, to get a few more clouds in, but maybe give that a try. Very well done.   Posted: 07/03/2026 00:49:31
Thank you for your suggestion. I tried adding sky and it was better. I would send a version except I don't know how to add a photo.   Posted: 07/03/2026 13:00:21
Rose I think I can add a photo if you wish. Send to me in usual way. Won't be main photo but members can click on it and see the adjustments you have made.   Posted: 07/03/2026 13:14:37
I love this image! The perfect moment for the perfect capture. The red T-shirt is wonderful and really good detailing on the structure!   Posted: 07/03/2026 18:03:54
This is a masterfully composed and deeply affecting architectural photograph that derives its greatest power from one perfect, unplanned human element. The facade is rendered with exceptional clarity and geometric precision - the symmetry you were drawn to is flawlessly executed. But it is that solitary figure in the red shirt that elevates this from a fine architectural record into a genuinely moving photograph while providing scale to the monument.
Adding some canvas to include more sky as you have done helps the image. Could you change the aspect ratio to keep the decorative detail at the bottom of the photo?
Waiting for - or simply being fortunate enough to catch - that red-shirted figure mid-crossing was the instinct that made this image truly memorable.
