Pops 66 Soda Ranch by Doug Sampson

December 2025 - Pops 66 Soda Ranch

About the Image(s)

Traveling along Route 66 in the USA you come across the Pops 66 Soda Ranch in Oklahoma. An iconic gas station and restaurant features over 700 varieties of soda. Outside stands a 66’ tall sign in the shape of a giant soda bottle. The sign is lit by LED lights which provide a spectacular show each night. This photo was taken with a Canon PowerShot 590, 1/8 sec at f/2.6. I did remove some extraneous lights from the background and bumped up the contrast to get the clear, vibrant color set against the night sky.

That must make quite an impact when you drive up?
The colours have turned out really and make the structure stand out.
I did think whether a thin keyline would add to the image? See what you think?   Posted: 12/07/2025 22:25:43

I guess this is our month for black backgrounds and lighted subject matter. This is a good photograph also. The soda bottle is well lit, well centered and stands out well against the black background. It is also very sharp. I agree with Angela, the key line helps with the image.   Posted: 12/08/2025 00:00:29

That's quite an impressive soda bottle! It has a very sharp focus and the colors really stand out against that black background! I do think the small key line frame makes it stand out even more. Interesting subject, well done!   Posted: 12/09/2025 15:15:02

What an interesting find! It is very well lit and works well on a black background. I agree with some of the others that a key line would add to the image especially on a black background like we have here. It would define the edges. In some competitions, you are not allowed to add a key line but for this group it is appropriate.   Posted: 12/17/2025 23:38:53
