Candy Corn plant by Kurt Reinhard

October 2025 - Candy Corn plant

About the Image(s)

'I took this photo using my Nikon Z5. Settings are f/7.1, 1/1000s, ISO 500, 50mm. I used my macro lens for this one. I had a difficult time finding the type of flower this is. I think that it a Quesnelia Bromaid. I took the photo this summer at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in St. Paul Minnesota, but the plant is native to Brazil. To me it looks like candy corn. This photograph is an HDR merge of 5 photographs with slightly different shutter speeds. I had the bracketing feature activated on the camera, so I could get a slightly different exposure. By using the macro lens, I was able to get a good bokeh for the background. The HDR merge really helped sharpen the image of the flower. '

Very strange looking plant and well spotted.
Your post processing has worked well. The plant is lovely and sharp and colouring is beautiful.
As there is quite a lot going on in the BG I had a go at cropping, desaturating the mauve and slightly blurring it.
See what you think. Just my opinion.
Well done.   Posted: 10/05/2025 16:02:18

Thanks Angela.

I thought the background might be a bit busy. I like your edits. Thanks for the feedback.   Posted: 10/06/2025 00:49:59
