About the Image(s)

I took this photo using my Nikon Z5, and my new macro lens. F/3.2, 1/125 seconds, ISO 560, 50mm. I just purchased the lens. I was going to wait until fall, but the local camera shop was having a sale. This is my first day of shooting with a macro lens. I bought it mostly for still lifes, but wanted to practice. The idea behind a macro lens is to get really close, make the object look big, and show the texture of the object. This pineapple plant is at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in St. Paul Minnesota. The actual pineapple size is only about 3 or 4 inches high. I had the lens about 12 inches or so from the subject. But I do feel it came out very sharp, with a good bokeh in the background. I used Photoshop Express to edit. I cropped the original and performed a 50% dehaze. The rest is just the camera and me. The sunlight is coming through the glass building that makes up the conservatory.'

Well done for getting a macro lens, they are good fun. I think you will find that you can get even closer when you get used to it.
Lovely clear and sharp image of the pineapple. The background though busy is nicely blurred keeping the eye on the main subject.
Well done.   Posted: 05/06/2025 14:16:45

Good photo of the pineapple. Cropping from the bottom really made the pineapple bigger. The blurry background makes the subject stand out. Enjoy your new lens. Perhaps we will see more macro photos from you in the future.   Posted: 05/09/2025 01:16:48
