About the Image(s)
Taken with my Canon R5, 24-70mm lens. f/16. ISO 100, 1/4 sec.
I suspended the donut from a piece of string but it would not stay at the angle I wanted so had to resort to stabbing it with a knitting needle and clamping it in place!! It is lit by a flash head on the left side and a white piece of card opposite to send some light back to the donut. I then had some icing sugar in a sift and kept taking photos to capture it falling over the donut. In PS I upped the blacks to make the BG black then cloned out the string and needle.Finished with a thin stroke around the edge.

As usual, very creative with your ideas. In the final version it does appear that the donut is flying through the air, and the sugar is flying off of it. I'm not sure if that is what you were intending, but this is a good shot. I have the same experience in that sometimes my subject doesn't want to lean the way I want it to, but the needle seems to have done the trick for you. Great job on the edits. Maybe the focus on the donut could be a tiny bit better, but that is the only nitpick I have. Great shot.   Posted: 03/02/2025 18:31:24

"This is a creative and visually striking image! The powdered sugar falling around the donut truly gives the effect of a 'donut shower,' making it feel dynamic and artistic. The contrast between the bright sugar and the dark background enhances the details beautifully. I especially appreciate the way the texture of the donut stands out, though I think the focus on the donut itself could be slightly sharper to make the details even more pronounced. Overall, it's a well-executed and engaging composition!"   Posted: 03/10/2025 02:09:12
This made me smile! As usual, you come up with some creative ideas for everyday objects. The black background works well as it allows the icing sugar to show clearly.
The doughnut could have been a little sharper but still looks good enough to eat!   Posted: 03/13/2025 14:04:07

I like this image a lot. A great idea beautifully executed, and your attention to detail is "the icing on the cake" (or donut). Glad to see that, with a black background, you identified your picture's boundary.

My first thought was that this looked like a celestial body and the sugar was stars!
I think this is wonderfully creative. Maybe the donut could be sharper. I really like this!   Posted: 03/30/2025 02:01:45

Angela, this is imaginative and joyful-such a clever concept! The falling sugar adds motion and magic. It really pops against the dark background. Slight sharpness aside, it's visually delicious and delightfully creative. Loved it!   Posted: 03/30/2025 10:40:47
