About the Image(s)

I submitted a similar photo last summer, but as I work to improve on my still life shots I reworked this. I used my Nikon Z5, F/10, 1/4s, ISO 320 from 32.5 mm. I used an external light set at 4500KB, 75% intensity. As you can see, I did a lot of cropping. The intention was to give the photo an overall black and white look, but I wanted to keep the rose red. I use Photo Shop Express, and there is an option to turn the photo into black and white with a pinhole effect, but that did not work very well. So, I recreated the B&W pinhole manually by adding a vignette, slightly dehazing the wine glass, bringing out a little white on the bottle to show the reflection better, bringing out some black at the top of the wine bottle, and bringing out some white in the background. I did a little research on colors and black and white is considered a romantic color combination, which is why I chose to add the rose, where in the previous submission I had the cork from the bottle."

My type of image and so well done. The starkness of the black and white against the red rose works really well. The shadows and reflections have been done very well. I also like the circular vignette as this really highlights the subjects.
Only thing I might do is remove the green leaf sticking up at the back of the rose? Once seen I keep looking at it!!

Beautiful still life! I really like the color combo of black, red and white. The white vignette adds the perfect touch! I wouldn't change a thing about this!   Posted: 02/22/2025 17:22:45
