About the Image(s)
Shot with my Nikon Z5, F/2.8, 1/160s, ISO 500, 61mm. My attempt here is to improve my story telling, even with still life's. I am looking forward to getting your feedback on how well I am doing that. For edits I used Photoshop Express to crop the original, and to bring out better brown colors. In Photoshop Express I went to Looks, then HDR (High Dynamic Range) and chose one of the options there. I thought it pulled out a better brown throughout the photograph. I also boght out some black on the bottle. I then removed light reflections, and some other minor touch ups in NX Studio. '

Looks rather delicious!!
I like the triangle of the red made by the straw, spoon and beer label. The lighting is good and you have done well to bring out all the browns compared to the original. All taken at a slight angle which has worked well. The bottle and glass are nice and sharp. I would have liked to see the spoon all sharp as it seems only the handle is at moment? Not too sure how that has happened.
Good image, well done.

The final image is so much more pleasing. The float and root beer are sharp. It would be good if the spoon could have been sharp. The background brown is very nice in the final version It appears to match the float colours and is brighter than the original. Very nice.   Posted: 12/05/2024 01:44:59

Kurt, you have the story of the Root Beer Float, and it is clear that is your story. It is a bit static. Maybe have stirred the drink with the spoon as it is clean, and a missed point to show a time progression and depth to the story. I like the background working off at the angle you chose. Check that you have good white balance, as at least on my computer it is a bit on the warm orange side. The top of the ice cream is a bit bright lacking detail. But the story is there.   Posted: 12/16/2024 21:43:16

Thanks Randall
I appreciate your detailed feedback. It really does help me. I will work on the white balance and the top of the ice cream. But thanks for the feedback on the story telling. That is what I was looking for.

Great still life! I like the browns in your version much better than the original, as they match the color of a root beer float! I like all the swirls and texture in the float. It makes it more interesting to look at. It is too bad the spoon isn't all in focus. The few touches of red add just enough color to the photo!!   Posted: 12/20/2024 04:04:43
