About the Image(s)

Like most of us, the iPhone camera is always with me and I stop most weeks at my Grocerystore flower display. Lighting is good, composition is good if my timing is right and I don't need to touch anything. Using phone in Raw mode. ISO800 at 6.85 mm and f1.8 and 1/40 sec. I edit on my Mac and use Topaz Studio, Filter-Motion, mask using color selection and then "Inverse"and then Motion-Swirl and that created the finished image. Yes, I used the remove tool to get rid of the bar codes.

It's interesting and colorful. For me, I find it a little confusing. I find myself looking at two different objects - the swirls and the flowers. I wonder whether one or the other could be a little less prominent - possibly the swirls? Also I see some kind of object in the upper right - like the remnants of a vase maybe? You do like the abstracts, don't you. :)   Posted: 07/09/2024 21:30:49

Marti, sorry for causing you confusion. In my mind the swirls are less prominent. It's the flowers sticking up thru the swirls that might be causing the confusion. ðŸËœâ‚¬   Posted: 07/10/2024 01:33:00

I love capturing flower collections in supermarkets. They are always so colorful and cheerful. I actually like your original, especially if you cropped it square to eliminate the edges. The post processing technique you have used creates an interesting abstract and I like the flowers that poke through the swirls. Actually, I would try cropping this square as well, to concentrate on the middle where the swirl interacts completely with the swirl.   Posted: 07/15/2024 18:27:16

Thanks Ingrid for your suggestions and comments. Of course I can crop to square but I don't know why I didn't. It seems that Topaz crops differently so I wait till it's back in LsC but no memory why I didn't. Glad to have another fan of Grocery Store Flower shops on board.   Posted: 07/15/2024 20:17:23

Bob, what a fun idea! The bundles of market flowers made of a wonderful subject and, as you will, turned it into something abstract. What I really like re the individual flowers that peek through, very inventive. I almost wish the swirl parts were more subdued and used more as a background for the flowers popping through. But that's just me. Nice job.   Posted: 07/15/2024 23:49:44

Thanks Rich. I'm going to explore with fading the swirls because the swirls and the masks of flowers are the same and don't believe I've had one more vibrant than the other.   Posted: 07/16/2024 00:44:16

Bob, another one of your creative abstracts. I find the top left square of the frame the most interesting. Here you have the swirl starting on the right side of the frame and working its way throughout capturing all of the floating red flowers giving the impression for me at least, wind swept flowers. It looks like a vortex of flowers.
It's interesting how the Topaz filter separated some of the flowers and kept others in their bunch. I've taken the liberty of cropping the image to show what I saw.   Posted: 07/17/2024 10:58:06

Great image. I think the square crop looses too much from the right; eliminating the pink would be enough of a crop for me. Also, a small crop from the left to eliminate the partial rose at the bottom. What is Filter-Motion? What is Motion-Swirl?   Posted: 07/23/2024 00:54:41

Thanks Doug, Good idea on the crop. In Topas Studio2, under filters v find motion, that gives you some choices but it defaults to Zoom, I use very little at this point, make another mask and it gives you choice of editing that mask and motion types like spin and a few others and my favorite is Swirl. I don't have program open. You can copy, paste, inverse these selections to your hearts content.   Posted: 07/23/2024 01:18:51
