About the Image(s)

Hippeastrum. Shot with Canon 90D, 100 mm macro lens, 1/1250 sec, f8, ISO 6400. I saw this bulb at a nursery and decided to buy it. I particularly like the combination of the lime green and red toning. Removed the background and built the colours using brushes and placed a texture over it.

Nadia, you've done another excellent job with creating a matching background. Your flower is sharp and composed as I think it should be and the background texture is non distracting. Just another excellent job.   Posted: 08/10/2026 01:42:55

I agree with Bob - another excellent image from you. I'm going to be really picky and say that I find the white stem at the bottom of the flower and the white points on several leaves seem to pull my eyes away from the entire image. It is beautiful though.   Posted: 08/10/2026 02:40:51

Thanks for your comments Marti, you have such a good eye for detail which I do admire. I hardly paid much attention to those white tips, in fact I don't think I've noticed them before your feedback. Thanks for pointing them out.   Posted: 08/17/2026 11:00:40

Hi Nadia. Lovely flower and lovely presentation. Your original is also a great image and cropped square, the original background would still showcase the flower well. You were smart to buy that bulb!   Posted: 08/12/2026 18:50:47

Hi Ingrid, thanks for your feedback. I do agree that the original has a lovely, soft blurred background and showcase the flower well. I like using photoshop and changing the backgrounds so it looks a bit unrealistic. I also like compositing.

Quite beautiful. I think the blossom could stand out more -- especially the center seems a bit dark. My version may be too much -- something inbetween, probably.   Posted: 08/20/2026 16:07:49

Do agree with you Doug, it does make the center stand out more. I think from memory that I may have darkened it.   Posted: 08/24/2026 10:49:22
