About the Image(s)

I took the original at the Chicago Botanic Garden in the parking lot. Shot at ISO200 at f5.6. Bringing it into Photoshop I made a separate layer of just the tulips. Then made a layer copy and used the Gaussian Blur filter for the background which I placed below the layer of the tulip selection. After flattening the layers, I added the vignette and stroke.

You know what makes this image special, that reddish halo around the subject. Great touch. The flowers are quite striking, so hard to get the reds right and you did!. Beautiful job.   Posted: 04/06/2026 21:36:09

Very, very Nice Marti. Great job of lining up the car parts and doing the Blur filter. I wouldn't have thought that the white car would create that hi light that throws light back into the tulips. It probably doesn't but I think it creates the possibility.   Posted: 04/07/2026 00:37:34

What makes this composition nice, is the what appears to be light through the petals. The background is very nice and the red around the tulips gives it more interest. For me, the background is too smooth and looks unnatural and you might consider adding some noise to give it some texture; about 3-4px of noise is what I use.   Posted: 04/17/2026 11:10:39
