About the Image(s)

I've had my eye on these Cleome's for years and I wanted to move beyond the static composition. So here it is. Iso 640, f10, s/s 1/400 sec and 85mm. I was working with fresh overnight rain and no wind. Edited by masking the flowers and inverting to twirl the background. Your thoughts?

I like the twirl effect and the water on the flower. I find the bright pink of the background distracts me from the flower itself. Perhaps changing the color to a muted green or toning down the brightness of the pink?   Posted: 07/06/2025 05:11:57

But you can't like the twirl and not the color of the twirl. I understand tone down the background. Thanks Marti   Posted: 07/07/2025 02:39:54

Bob, I do like the twirl in the background, it definitely adds interest. Water drops also add interest. I agree with Marti about the bright pink and kind of wish I could see the entire blossom in the frame. Nice job.   Posted: 07/09/2025 17:02:43

Thanks Rich. But I'm not getting your comment. The blossom showing in my original? That's not the entire blossom. And because of the size and depth not all is in focus. Was taken in a "No cutting zone" of the Legg property so limitations on getting whole.   Posted: 07/10/2025 21:44:44

The colors are my favorite thing about the photo. I'm not sure the composition works, and all the water drops should be in focus. However, I do like the swirls, too. What do you think of this edit (a bit of Generative Fill)? I don't like it all that much. It does simplify the image & emphasizes the swirls.   Posted: 07/12/2025 22:36:10

Hi Bob. The colors on this are gorgeous and I love the water droplets, especially the ones that have reflections in them. your composition works and the swirl does add interest. Looking at your original, I think you should definitely recreate another edited image using just the bloom on the far right which has tack sharp water droplets and really great reflections!   Posted: 07/14/2025 16:13:24

Hi Bob,
Greetings my friend.
You have a wonderful creative Cleome captured, processed and presented. Amazing color and the presentation. I love the way you have cropped the image from the original.
Nothing more to add. Tightening the crop and editing by Doug is also exceptional.
Thank you for sharing.
Cheers.
Kamal.

Hi Bob, I have to admit that I'm unfamiliar with this flower. I'm assuming that what you have presented are the petals that haven't opened. If that's so, then I think you've done a wonderful job in bringing those together to create your image. I also like the colours together with the droplets. The swirl in the background adds to the interest and does make the focal point stand out. The only minor suggestion that I have would be to darken the background a little to have some separation from the similar colours. Nicely done.   Posted: 07/20/2025 10:45:55
