About the Image(s)

As rain continued during the start of the Australian summer months, I decided to go out in the rain and photograph some flowers. I captured the dahlia in the late afternoon when rain was easing. Canon 90D, 100-400mm lens; 1/1600 sec, f8, ISO 4000. Camera raw adjustments including denoise. In Photoshop, merged the two originals as I liked the composition did basic tonal contrast and sharpened.

And another beautiful composition, exposure and composite and in the rain no less. I concur with your use of the long lens, it adds so much detail .   Posted: 02/10/2025 22:07:07

I like the main flower with the rain on it. Nice exposure. I'm not so certain the second flower is needed. To me, it makes me look back and forth between the two. A third bud might help that but there doesn't seem to be much room to add one. Overall though - nice job on the captures.   Posted: 02/18/2025 20:51:16

Thanks for your comments Marti. There is a bud behind the second flower. My intention was a diagonal composition. Maybe I could have left more space after the bud on the right hand side. Also, I think I could put some light on it as well to make it stand out.   Posted: 02/21/2025 10:24:50

Hi Nadia. This is a beautiful image and you have done an excellent job of combining the two into one composition. The amazing light and rain droplets both on the flowers and in the background really make this a unique image with lots of atmosphere and a strong story. I think there would be another strong image - a vertical with just the flower on the left. Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 02/20/2025 20:58:25

Thanks Ingrid for your valued feedback. As mentioned, I had in mind of a diagonal composition, from bottom left to upper right. I like your suggestion of a vertical version of the flower on its own.   Posted: 02/21/2025 10:28:04
