Parrott Head Study by Rich James

January 2025 - Parrott Head Study

About the Image(s)

One of my favorite flowers is the tiny Parrot Head Lotus flower. From afar they’re just small bright yellow blossoms, but up close they’re brilliant. This is a stack of about 30 images shot with an 100 mm macro lens on a full frame camera in my little table top studio. (Sony A7r3). I didn’t include an original in that you would just see a mostly out of focus image. Have a very happy holidays!

Stunning again. I would like to see a stroke to contain the flower more. It just looks like it's floating in a sea of black. The colors are vibrant and the position is very nice. Good job.   Posted: 01/08/2025 05:12:45

Rich, another beauty. Love the brilliant colors, focus and overall composition. I guess in your climate you have access to cut or grow Parrott heads. The only little nit is the white hotspot on the middle petal at the corner, I would try to cut hi lights on it or use the remove tool. I've seen it the remove tool do magic that would have seem impossible last year.   Posted: 01/09/2025 22:34:45

Hi Rich. My first reaction was "what a gorgeous dancing flower!" You have taken a beautiful stationary bloom and made it appear to be swaying majestically. Your focus stacking worked perfectly and the colors are wonderful. I see the hot spot that Bob mentioned, but I doubt I would have noticed it without his comment. This image definitely needs to be printed and displayed!   Posted: 01/16/2025 02:19:46

I agree with Ingrid about the hot spot(s). As I looked the image over (and over), I began to see several "hot spots" but to me, they seemed to naturally reflect the lighting on the flower without being too "hot".   Posted: 01/17/2025 20:58:57

I agree; wonderful image. The "hot spots" do not bother me. I might tone down the yellow points at the bottom. How would this look with more texture added?   Posted: 01/21/2025 18:25:44
