About the Image(s)

This image was taken in Arizona at some canyons that are not the most popular. Photographers were able to bring in their tripods and take their time taking images. It is privately owned by the Native Americans. The owner of the land’s son took in a small bus to the canyons.

I used Nikon D500 with wide angle lens, Tokina ATX -X Pro 11-16mm, 1.3sec, F9, ISO 200 at 1:07pm with a tripod. I love the colors, but I think you see the lines and tones better in Black and White. I used Lightroom and Photoshop with Camera Raw.

This is stunning Linda. The detail you pulled out of the original is great in black and white. I like your crop. It looks to me like the blown out part in the original is daylight coming into the canyon, right? Did all that detail come from the original or did you do some magic cloning or something? This makes a beautiful abstract with a natural vibe.   Posted: 09/16/2023 16:43:09

No, I did not add anything. I tried to restore the blown out part that the sun is hitting the rock. Thank you for the feed back.   Posted: 09/17/2023 19:33:30

These slot canyons are truly beautiful. You got amazing detail out of that hot spot in the lower right of your final edit. I tried to duplicate it just now and couldn't get it as good as you did. Then I used Viveza to try to bring out the detail in the large dark triangle in the bottom right. But comparing the two, I find your version better. My lightened area just looks whimpy.   Posted: 09/18/2023 15:11:31

I like what you did. It is darker and it makes it look richer.   Posted: 09/19/2023 20:15:09

You really saved this image with the conversion to black and white Linda. The crop was a great choice as well. The details are really nice and this makes for a really nice abstract.   Posted: 09/19/2023 17:48:12

Thank you Denise.   Posted: 09/19/2023 20:15:28

A fantastic image Linda, I really like the conversion to BW as you concentrate on the shapes and textures. A suggestion for the future in these difficult lighting conditions is to take several exposures and merge them afterwards in Lightroom or Camera Raw. Although you did a great job from a single image.   Posted: 09/24/2023 06:00:13
